Grand Junction, Colorado – Travel through Colorado’s mountain passes could become treacherous Friday as up to 8 inches of snow targets the central and southern Rockies, with the heaviest snowfall expected in the southern San Juan Mountains.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, snow will continue through Saturday night, favoring higher elevations. Rain and isolated thunderstorms are also likely across western valleys this afternoon. Mountain roads, especially overnight, could see rapid snow buildup, increasing the risk of slick conditions and delays.
Daytime highs will hold in the 50s across desert valleys like Moab and Montrose, while mountain towns such as Telluride and Crested Butte will struggle to reach the 30s. Additional snow totals of 4–8 inches are expected in elevations above 9,000 feet. Freeze Watches and Warnings are in place tonight for lower valleys, with temperatures dipping near or below freezing.
Residents should avoid mountain travel during late hours if possible and prepare for sudden road changes. Charge devices, keep blankets in vehicles, and monitor local alerts.
Snow and freezing conditions will linger through Saturday night, and more advisories may be issued depending on evolving weather patterns.
