Raleigh, NC – A chill is set to settle over much of central and northern North Carolina overnight Wednesday, prompting a frost advisory across multiple Piedmont counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, the advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures expected to dip into the mid-30s, creating conditions favorable for patchy frost. Affected counties include Durham, Guilford, Alamance, Forsyth, Moore, Orange, and Randolph, among others.

Forecasters warn that sensitive outdoor vegetation could be damaged or killed if left uncovered. While rural areas are most at risk, urban centers such as Greensboro, Durham, and Winston-Salem are likely to remain slightly warmer and may escape frost development.

Residents are advised to take precautions by covering or bringing in vulnerable plants. This advisory comes during the spring growing season, when newly planted gardens and budding trees are particularly susceptible.

While frost in mid-April isn’t uncommon for the Piedmont region, it can still catch gardeners and farmers off guard. Cooler conditions are expected to linger into early morning hours before temperatures rise with the sun.

Stay tuned to local forecasts for any updates or extensions to the advisory.
