Caribou, ME – A complex weather system continues to impact Maine, with snow expected to accumulate on roads despite temperatures remaining slightly above freezing. As of 5:52 PM, the National Weather Service issued a warning for hazardous conditions across the northern and central parts of the state.
According to the National Weather Service, subsurface temperatures below freezing are causing snow to accumulate on roads, creating slick conditions, particularly in higher elevations. The snowfall forecast includes hazardous driving conditions on major routes, including Route 1 from Danforth to St. John Valley and Route 11 from Patten to Masardis.
Roads are expected to remain slick throughout the night, with reports of icy conditions already coming in from Aroostook County. Drivers should use caution, especially in areas like the Central Highlands, where the accumulation of snow on surfaces like grass, cars, and snowboards is predicted to be significant. These conditions may lead to delays and hazardous travel along routes such as Route 2 & 2A from Haynesville Woods to Houlton.
The National Weather Service is advising motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and to keep updated with the latest weather alerts.
