Roanoke, VA – A freeze warning has been issued for parts of southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina, including Roanoke, Lynchburg, and several nearby cities, as sub-freezing temperatures are expected early Wednesday morning. The warning is in effect from 2:00 AM to 9:00 AM EDT on April 9, 2025.

Temperatures are forecast to drop as low as 23°F to 30°F, creating a risk for frost and potential damage to sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing. According to the National Weather Service, these freezing conditions could be hazardous to crops and other plants if not properly protected.

Residents are urged to take precautions to shield tender plants and to ensure outdoor plumbing is insulated to avoid damage. The freeze warning covers areas including Roanoke, Salem, Martinsville, Lynchburg, and parts of North Carolina such as Eden, Yanceyville, and Wilkesboro.

This cold snap is expected to pass by 9 AM Wednesday, but until then, those in affected areas should prepare for freezing temperatures that could threaten outdoor growth.
