Flagstaff, AZ – A stretch of mild, sunny weather in northern Arizona will give way to increasing wind gusts by Saturday, prompting concern for residents and travelers across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, Flagstaff and surrounding areas can expect gusts as high as 37 mph Saturday afternoon, with sustained southwest winds ranging from 13 to 22 mph. Winds are forecast to persist through Sunday, peaking again with gusts up to 37 mph during the day and tapering off by nightfall.
Daytime highs will climb steadily through the week, reaching 76°F by Friday, before dropping slightly under gusty conditions over the weekend. Overnight lows will hover in the mid-30s. Despite the warmth, strong winds may impact outdoor plans, limit visibility on highways, and raise fire weather concerns in dry areas.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and exercise caution while driving, especially on north-south highways where crosswinds could affect high-profile vehicles. No precipitation is expected during this period.
Winds will ease early next week, with sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 60s forecast by Monday.
Flagstaff typically sees variable winds in spring, but gusts near 40 mph mark a notable weekend shift.
