Cleveland, OH – Patchy freezing fog and widespread black ice created dangerous driving conditions across northern and central Ohio Monday morning, impacting commuters from Cleveland to Akron.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, the advisory remains in effect through 1:30 p.m. EDT Monday, with visibility reduced to less than one-half mile in several areas. The weather service specifically warned of slick roadways caused by lingering moisture from overnight snow, particularly in shaded and untreated surfaces.

Counties affected include Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Summit, Portage, Trumbull, and Mahoning, along with surrounding regions. Further south and west, cities like Mansfield, Marion, and Mount Vernon are also experiencing dense fog from calm winds and damp ground conditions following recent rainfall.

Drivers are urged to reduce speeds, increase following distance, and allow for extra travel time. Officials caution that black ice may not be visible but remains highly hazardous, especially on bridges and overpasses.

This type of early April fog-and-ice mix is not uncommon in Ohio, where fluctuating spring temperatures and residual snowmelt often converge. The Ohio Department of Transportation recommends using headlights and avoiding sudden stops when traveling in low visibility areas.
