Louisville, KY – A widespread freeze warning is now in effect across central Kentucky, including the Louisville metro area, as well as parts of southern Indiana, until 10 a.m. EDT Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, sub-freezing temperatures between 25°F and 30°F are expected to impact the region starting around 2 a.m. EDT Tuesday. The advisory affects numerous counties across central and western Kentucky, with similar alerts issued by the Paducah and Louisville offices covering parts of Indiana, Missouri, and Illinois.

The cold snap threatens unprotected vegetation, including early-season crops and ornamental plants. Residents are urged to take immediate action to shield sensitive flora from the frost, including covering plants or moving potted ones indoors. Outdoor plumbing may also be vulnerable to freezing if not properly insulated.

Louisville, Bowling Green, Lexington, and surrounding communities could see overnight lows well below average for early April. This drop follows a recent warm spell that may have encouraged premature planting.

Freeze warnings are common for this time of year, but the abrupt temperature swing could catch some growers off guard. The alert is scheduled to expire at 10 a.m. EDT (9 a.m. CDT) Tuesday, with temperatures expected to gradually rebound later in the day.
