St. Cloud, MN – A late-season snow system is tapering off across central Minnesota, but slick and snow-covered roads continue to pose hazards into early Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities office, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. CDT Thursday for Stearns, Mille Lacs, Benton, and Swift counties. Cities impacted include St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, Princeton, and Benson. Up to one inch of additional snow accumulation is expected before the system fully exits the region.
Officials urge drivers to slow down and exercise caution, particularly during the overnight hours. Residual snow and ice may impact the tail end of Wednesday’s evening commute and early morning travel on Thursday.
While snowfall is expected to diminish overnight, untreated roads—especially in rural and less trafficked areas—will likely remain slippery into the early morning hours. Commuters should allow for extra travel time and check road conditions by calling 511 or visiting 511mn.org.
This advisory comes as part of a broader weather system that swept through the state earlier Wednesday, dropping measurable snow across central Minnesota. Though totals are light, the lingering effects underscore the importance of staying weather-aware well into April.
