Nashville, TN – Severe thunderstorms are advancing across western and middle Tennessee and central Kentucky as a tornado watch remains in effect until 3 a.m. CDT Monday.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the threat includes a few likely tornadoes, with a couple possibly reaching EF2 strength or higher. Scattered damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and hailstones up to 2 inches in diameter are also expected.
The watch area spans roughly 60 miles east and west of a line from northeast of Bowling Green, KY, to southwest of Nashville, TN. A convective line of strong storms is pushing eastward from southern Indiana through western Kentucky and Tennessee into a warm, moist atmosphere conducive to continued severe development. Meteorologists warn that persistent low-level wind shear supports tornado formation within this system.
Residents in areas including Clarksville, TN; Hopkinsville, KY; and Columbia, TN are urged to stay alert overnight. Ensure your phones are charged and weather alerts are enabled in case warnings are issued.
Preparedness tips include sheltering in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor, avoiding windows, and monitoring NOAA weather radio or local updates. The tornado watch follows multiple active weather watches already issued throughout the region Sunday.
