Omaha, NE – Nebraska residents face a heightened fire risk today with severe weather on the horizon this weekend.
The National Weather Service in Omaha has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect until 8 p.m. CDT Friday. Southwest winds could gust up to 40 mph with humidity dipping as low as 25 percent, setting up dangerous fire weather conditions. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. The warning spans eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa, impacting key counties and stretches of I-80 and I-29.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s warm, dry, and breezy conditions will continue with a high near 85°F. A slight chance of thunderstorms will develop late tonight into Saturday morning, becoming more likely through the day as a cold front arrives. Expect rain and possibly severe storms, particularly Saturday afternoon. Hail and gusty winds are the primary threats.
Saturday’s high is forecasted near 66°F with an 80 percent chance of rain. Rain will continue into Saturday night with temperatures dropping to the upper 30s. Sunday remains cooler, with highs near 45°F and a 60 percent chance of continued showers.
Looking ahead, Monday turns mostly sunny with highs near 51°F. Tuesday brings another chance of storms with temps climbing into the mid-60s.
