Atlanta, GA – High fire danger continues across north and central Georgia Friday, with burning discouraged as thunderstorms threaten to arrive by Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, dry conditions paired with gusty winds have prompted elevated fire risk through at least Friday evening. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning activities, particularly in counties along the I-75 and I-20 corridors, including Fulton, DeKalb, Bibb, and Clayton.

Showers could begin Saturday night after 2 a.m., bringing relief to dry conditions. However, storms could intensify late Sunday into Monday, with the strongest activity expected late Sunday night. While the severe threat remains low, localized downpours and lightning are possible, especially in metro Atlanta and surrounding areas.

Saturday’s high is forecasted at 79°F under mostly cloudy skies, with a low around 61°F. Rain chances increase to 70% by Saturday night. Sunday brings a 70% chance of thunderstorms, with potential for isolated storms after 2 p.m. Conditions remain wet into Monday, with an 80% chance of rain and a high near 76°F.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast calls for drier skies starting Tuesday, with partly sunny weather and highs in the mid-70s through midweek. However, isolated storms may return by Wednesday evening.
