Miami, FL – South Florida’s east coast is bracing for a heightened marine hazard risk today as strong winds return, creating dangerous conditions at local beaches and waters. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a high-risk warning for rip currents along the east coast beaches from 8 a.m. Thursday through 8 p.m. Friday. Beachgoers are advised to exercise extreme caution when swimming, with lifeguarded areas offering the safest environment.

In addition to rip currents, a small craft advisory is in effect for all Atlantic waters, warning of rough seas ranging from 4 to 7 feet and sustained winds between 15 to 25 knots. Small boats and vessels are encouraged to avoid venturing out into the open waters due to the hazardous conditions.

According to the NWS, rip currents can be particularly treacherous, sweeping even experienced swimmers into deeper waters. The advisory comes as warmer, drier weather conditions return to the region, making it crucial for residents and visitors to stay informed and take necessary precautions while enjoying the beach or boating.
