Minot, ND — A Winter Weather Advisory will bring a mix of ice and snow to northwest and north central North Dakota beginning early Friday, potentially creating dangerous travel conditions through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, the advisory takes effect at 1 a.m. CDT Friday and continues until 4 p.m. It affects counties including Divide, Burke, Renville, Bottineau, Rolette, Williams, Mountrail, Ward, McHenry, and Pierce. Cities such as Minot, Williston, Bottineau, and Rugby are within the affected region.

Forecasters expect ice accumulations of a few hundredths of an inch, with up to one inch of snow in some areas. The combination may cause slick roads, especially during the Friday morning commute. Drivers should expect delays and reduced traction on untreated surfaces.

Transportation officials recommend slowing down and allowing extra time for travel. North Dakota residents can check current road conditions by dialing 511 or visiting the North Dakota Department of Transportation website.

While not a major storm, this system marks another round of late-season winter weather. Motorists in affected areas should remain alert for changing conditions and use caution throughout Friday.
