Greenville, SC – A fast-moving wildfire prompted mandatory evacuations across Greenville and Pickens counties Monday afternoon, forcing residents along dozens of roads to leave their homes immediately.
According to the South Carolina Forestry Commission, emergency orders were issued around 2 p.m. as fire crews battled the spreading blaze. The evacuation zone includes Table Rock Road, Caesars Head Highway, Burgess Road, and multiple neighborhoods in both counties. An evacuation shelter is open at Marietta First Baptist Church (2936 Geer Hwy, Marietta, SC 29661).
The evacuation affects residents on more than 70 roads, including Echo Drive, Misty Mountain Way, Wild Brook Drive, Ridge Springs Road, and Blue Mountain Way. Crews are working rapidly to contain the fire, which is moving through rugged terrain and dense wooded areas.
Officials have not confirmed the fire’s origin or how many acres are currently affected. No injuries have been reported as of 3 p.m. Monday, but residents are urged to avoid the area unless evacuating.
Those in the evacuation zones should gather essential items and leave immediately. Stay tuned to the South Carolina Forestry Commission for updates and road closures. Residents outside the evacuation zone should remain alert as shifting winds could expand danger zones.
