Medford, OR – A round of spring-time thunderstorms is expected to develop across southern Oregon Wednesday afternoon, bringing lightning and potentially damaging wind gusts to the region.

According to the US National Weather Service in Medford, there is a 15–30% chance of thunderstorms on March 26, with the greatest threat occurring in the afternoon and evening hours. Storms that form could include cloud-to-ground lightning and erratic wind gusts exceeding 50 mph.

While the majority of the region will see scattered storms, localized areas in Jackson, Josephine, and Siskiyou counties fall within a 5–10% risk for storms that may become severe. These include threats of 1-inch hail or stronger wind gusts. A broader 10–20% risk zone covers surrounding areas, including Grants Pass and portions of Klamath and Lake counties.

Outdoor plans should be reconsidered or delayed, as sudden weather changes may occur. Residents are advised to remain weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts.

The weather service emphasizes that no widespread flooding or tornado activity is expected. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for real-time updates.
