Indianapolis, IN – A 22-year-old Indianapolis man faces arson and fraud-related charges nearly a year after a fire tore through his home on Tart Boulevard.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, firefighters responded to the 5700 block of Tart Boulevard on April 22, 2024, around 11:16 p.m. Crews encountered heavy fire through the roof and launched a defensive attack. The blaze was brought under control within 50 minutes. No one was home at the time.

Fire investigators later determined the fire was intentionally set. Officials say the fire originated inside the residence and was ruled incendiary. Investigators allege the homeowner, Gurpreet Singh, deliberately set the fire to collect insurance money.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Singh on March 24, 2025, with Level 4 Arson and Level 6 Arson with Intent to Defraud. The investigation involved search warrants, multiple interviews, and nearly a year of evidence gathering.

Singh was arrested in Ohio and extradited to Indianapolis. In addition to arson charges, he also faces felony battery charges unrelated to the fire. Authorities have not disclosed the estimated damage to the property or details of the insurance claim.
