Melbourne, FL – A tornado risk and marginal chance for severe weather is expected across East Central Florida this evening, with storms forecast to impact the southern Treasure Coast and Okeechobee County between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Level 1 out of 5 Marginal Risk has been issued for strong to severe storms. The forecast warns of gusty winds ranging from 45 to 55 mph, a 5% chance for wind gusts over 60 mph, and the possibility of coin-sized hail. Forecasters also note the risk of a brief tornado forming within fast-moving storm cells.

Residents in Stuart, Fort Pierce, and surrounding communities should monitor weather alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Okeechobee County emergency management officials advise residents to secure loose outdoor objects and remain indoors during the storm window.

Localized heavy rain could also lead to minor flooding in low-lying areas. Additionally, a moderate risk of rip currents remains in effect across all Central Florida Atlantic beaches, prompting beach safety officials to advise against swimming without lifeguard supervision.
