Omaha, NE – A significant temperature drop late Sunday could bring a quick shift from rain to snow across northeast Nebraska.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, a strong cold front will move through the region Sunday evening, causing temperatures to collapse rapidly. As a result, a rain/snow mix is expected to develop, particularly in northern and northeastern parts of the state. While snowfall accumulations are projected to be minor, the sudden change may catch drivers and residents off guard.
The shift follows a period of unseasonably warm temperatures and increased fire danger earlier in the weekend. By Sunday, however, conditions will change swiftly, with colder air ushering in the potential for wintry precipitation.
Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts and prepare for slick conditions late Sunday into early Monday, especially in areas like Norfolk, Wayne, and Columbus. Although major travel disruptions aren’t expected, elevated roadways and bridges could become slippery.
The weather service recommends checking for updates and driving cautiously if traveling overnight. This rapid transition marks the beginning of a cooler, more active weather pattern continuing into early next week.
