Raleigh, NC – Strong winds and dry air will raise the risk of fire danger across central North Carolina starting Tuesday morning and lasting through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, gusty winds up to 25 mph combined with low humidity will create conditions favorable for the rapid spread of fires Tuesday and Wednesday. This alert affects counties across the I-40 corridor, including Wake, Durham, Orange, Chatham, and Johnston.

Residents should avoid outdoor burning and secure loose materials that could become airborne. Emergency managers stress that even small fires could spread quickly under these conditions.
