Paducah, KY – Thunderstorms with potentially damaging winds and hail are expected across western Kentucky this afternoon, with the highest risk centered between 2 and 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service Paducah office, a weak cold front is moving through the region, triggering off-and-on showers throughout Sunday. The most severe weather is forecast from mid-afternoon into early evening, with storms possibly producing wind gusts up to 30 mph and large hail.
Cities including Paducah, Murray, Mayfield, and Owensboro fall under a marginal risk category, meaning isolated severe storms could develop. Winds will shift from the southeast to the southwest at 10 to 20 mph throughout the day, further fueling storm activity. Temperatures are expected to remain mild, ranging from 61°F to 70°F.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and monitor weather alerts throughout the day. Those traveling should plan for possible delays and reduced visibility during heavy rain or gusty conditions.
This level of storm risk is not uncommon in early spring for Kentucky, but residents are urged to stay alert due to the threat of locally damaging conditions.
