According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a strong system will bring steady showers to Champaign and nearby counties beginning around 7 a.m. Sunday. Rain chances spike to 90%, with wind gusts reaching 33 mph. Southbound lanes on I-72 near Champaign may see visibility reductions during peak travel hours.
Temperatures will climb to a mild 57°F Sunday but will drop to the mid-30s overnight. Monday brings a break with sunny skies and breezy winds topping 32 mph. However, more rain returns by Tuesday with another 40% chance of showers.
Daily highs this week trend warmer, with Monday and Tuesday peaking near the upper 50s. By Friday, temperatures are expected to reach a springlike 74°F, offering residents a taste of more seasonal warmth.
Motorists should exercise caution on slick roads and secure outdoor items vulnerable to wind. With back-and-forth temperatures and recurring rain, local authorities advise residents to monitor weather updates and remain prepared for changing conditions.
The strongest wind gusts are expected from Sunday through Monday evening. Power outages or minor tree damage are possible in exposed areas.
