MEMPHIS, TN – A Blowing Dust Warning remains in effect for parts of northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri until 9 p.m. CDT Wednesday, as strong winds create hazardous travel conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Wind Advisory is also in effect until 10 p.m. CDT. Winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, are expected to create widespread blowing dust. Counties under the warning include Dunklin and Pemiscot in Missouri, as well as Clay, Greene, Craighead, Poinsett, and Mississippi in Arkansas.
The primary concern is severely limited visibility, which could drop to near zero in some areas. Officials warn that travel could be dangerous and potentially life-threatening. The strong winds may also cause power outages and damage unsecured objects or tree limbs.
Motorists are urged to use extreme caution. If blowing dust is encountered, drivers should pull off the road as far as possible, turn off their lights, and avoid pressing the brake pedal to reduce the risk of collisions. Those with respiratory conditions should remain indoors until conditions improve.
Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and prepare for sudden drops in visibility as the warning remains in effect through the evening hours.
