Moline, IL – A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for central Rock Island County in Illinois and parts of eastern Iowa, including Scott, Cedar, and Muscatine counties, until 1:45 p.m. CDT, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Quad Cities.

At 1:01 p.m. CDT, meteorologists detected a severe thunderstorm over Durant, Iowa, moving east at 35 mph. The storm is producing wind gusts of up to 60 mph, which could cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Communities in the storm’s path include Moline, Davenport, Eldridge, Walcott, and Buffalo. Highways impacted by the storm include Interstate 74 in both Iowa and Illinois, as well as Interstate 80 between mile markers 275 and 303.

The NWS has advised residents to seek shelter in a sturdy building’s interior room on the lowest floor. A tornado watch remains in effect until 9:00 p.m. CDT for northwestern Illinois and eastern Iowa, as tornadoes can form quickly from severe thunderstorms.

Officials urge caution, as radar indicates the possibility of hail and additional strong wind gusts. Residents should stay informed through local weather updates and take necessary precautions to remain safe during the storm.
