Abilene, TX – A Wind Advisory and Red Flag Warning are in effect for West Central Texas through Wednesday, bringing strong winds and critical fire weather conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo, wind speeds will range from 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. The strongest winds will come from the west to northwest, posing hazards for high-profile vehicles and unsecured outdoor objects.
Additionally, a Red Flag Warning signals extreme fire danger, with humidity levels dropping as low as 8%. The combination of dry conditions and strong winds could cause fires to ignite and spread rapidly. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and take precautions against accidental fire starts.
Conditions may improve north of I-20 by Wednesday afternoon, but elevated fire risks will persist until then. Drivers should use caution on roadways, and those in fire-prone areas should have emergency plans in place.
