Kansas City, MO – A significant winter storm is set to bring blizzard conditions across the Central Plains and Midwest starting tonight and lasting through Thursday. The storm will bring heavy snowfall, with rates of 1-2 inches per hour, and wind gusts exceeding 50 mph, creating near-zero visibility and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm will impact areas from northern Kansas through southern Minnesota, with a high probability of over six inches of snow. Some areas, particularly in Nebraska, Iowa, and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, could see more than a foot of snow.

Travel is expected to become dangerous or nearly impossible due to snow-covered roads and blowing snow. Authorities urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare emergency kits if they must venture out.

Additionally, the Southern Plains will experience strong winds reaching up to 80 mph through Wednesday, which could cause power outages and dangerous conditions for high-profile vehicles.

Officials advise residents in affected areas to stay updated on weather alerts and take precautions as the storm moves through.
