Minneapolis, MN – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Minnesota starting late Tuesday night, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds that could create blizzard conditions in parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will begin as rain before transitioning to heavy, wet snow overnight. Snowfall rates could exceed one inch per hour, with total accumulations ranging from 4 to 9 inches across affected areas. Winds are expected to reach 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph in some locations, significantly reducing visibility.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for counties including Dakota, Scott, Washington, Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Freeborn, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Rice, Steele, Waseca, Watonwan, and Goodhue. Cities such as Mankato, Red Wing, Albert Lea, and Owatonna are expected to experience the worst conditions.

Travel is expected to be hazardous, particularly during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Whiteout conditions may make travel treacherous, and gusty winds could bring down tree branches, causing additional disruptions.

Residents are urged to prepare for the storm by securing emergency supplies, monitoring weather updates, and avoiding unnecessary travel. Officials advise checking road conditions before heading out and exercising caution in affected areas.
