Albuquerque, NM – Strong winds and blowing dust are creating hazardous conditions across the Albuquerque metro area and Middle Rio Grande Valley today. Residents should prepare for gusts reaching up to 55 mph, potentially toppling tree limbs and reducing visibility on roadways.

According to the National Weather Service, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM Friday. Winds from the west at 30 to 40 mph, with occasional gusts over 50 mph, are expected to persist throughout the afternoon. These conditions may cause dangerous crosswinds on highways, especially for high-profile vehicles. Travelers should use extra caution on I-25 and I-40, where strong gusts could make driving difficult.

Beyond Friday’s winds, Albuquerque’s spring weather outlook includes cooler temperatures and a slight chance of snow showers on Saturday. The high will reach 53°F, with northwest winds continuing at 10 to 20 mph. Saturday night will be mostly clear, with a low of 27°F.

By Sunday, conditions improve with sunny skies and a high near 64°F. Monday and Tuesday will bring even warmer temperatures, peaking near 74°F on Monday and 72°F on Tuesday, though winds may pick up again.

Residents should secure outdoor objects and avoid unnecessary travel until the wind advisory expires. Stay updated with local weather alerts for any changes in the forecast.
