Buffalo, NY – A Flood Watch has been issued for parts of central New York, including Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis, and Oneida counties, from Sunday morning through Monday evening due to heavy rain and rapid snowmelt.

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall amounts between 1.0 and 1.5 inches are expected from Sunday through Sunday night. The greatest risk lies in areas with significant snowpack, particularly in the Tug Hill Plateau, the western foothills of the Adirondacks, and along Fish Creek in Oneida County.

Excessive runoff may cause rivers, creeks, and streams to rise rapidly, potentially leading to flooding in low-lying areas and flood-prone locations. Smaller streams and low-lying areas could experience flooding as early as Sunday, while larger rivers may reach flood stage by Monday.

Residents in affected areas are urged to stay alert for potential Flood Warnings and prepare for possible evacuations. Those living near rivers and streams should monitor water levels and have emergency plans in place.
