North Carolina residents can expect improving weather conditions Thursday, March 6, as strong winds and heavy rain subside, making way for clear skies. After a stormy midweek, Charlotte and surrounding areas will see a much-needed break from the wet conditions, with temperatures cooling slightly but remaining seasonable.

According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday’s storm system brought heavy rainfall and gusty winds, leading to potential tree damage and scattered power outages. The wind advisory, which was in effect until Wednesday evening, will expire overnight, allowing for calmer conditions Thursday. Highs will reach the mid-50s, with sunshine dominating most of the day. Winds will shift to the northwest at 10-14 mph, with occasional gusts up to 25 mph.

Thursday night will be clear and cool, with lows dipping to the upper 30s. The spring-like trend continues Friday with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 60s. The weekend forecast remains mild, but another chance of rain arrives late Saturday into Sunday morning, bringing a 50% chance of showers.

Drivers should remain cautious, as wet roads from Wednesday’s storm may still cause slick conditions Thursday morning. Those traveling along I-85 and I-77 should check local traffic updates before heading out.

Looking ahead, temperatures will gradually warm into next week, with sunny skies returning Monday and Tuesday. Expect highs in the upper 60s to low 70s, signaling the full arrival of spring across the region.
