Omaha, NE – A powerful winter storm is set to hit eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa, with a blizzard warning in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday until 3 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, the storm will bring wind gusts up to 70 mph, potentially causing extensive tree damage and power outages. Snowfall totals are expected to range from one to three inches, with localized amounts reaching up to five inches. A flash freeze is also anticipated, rapidly turning wet roads into icy hazards.

The blizzard warning covers Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, Otoe, Washington, and Richardson counties in Nebraska, as well as Pottawattamie, Mills, and Fremont counties in Iowa. Whiteout conditions are expected, making travel extremely dangerous or impossible at times.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors until the storm passes. Those who must travel should take extreme caution, drive slowly, and allow extra time to reach their destination. Experts recommend dressing in multiple layers, covering exposed skin, and ensuring vehicles are winterized with emergency supplies.

The storm is expected to clear by early Wednesday morning, but lingering icy conditions may impact morning commutes. Residents should stay updated on weather alerts and road conditions.
