Wichita Falls, TX – A tornado watch is in effect for 28 Texas counties, including Wichita, Taylor, and Montague, until 5 a.m. CST Tuesday as severe storms move across the region.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, the tornado watch includes cities such as Wichita Falls, Abilene, and San Angelo. The affected areas could experience damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes as the storm system intensifies overnight. Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts.

The watch covers North and Central Texas, stretching from Archer and Baylor counties to Tom Green and Young counties. Meteorologists warn that conditions are favorable for tornado formation, especially in areas with increased wind shear and instability.

Emergency officials urge residents to review their severe weather plans, ensure mobile devices are charged, and seek shelter in a sturdy structure if warnings are issued. If a tornado warning is declared, people should move to an interior room on the lowest floor and avoid windows.

The storm system is expected to weaken after sunrise Tuesday, but lingering storms could still produce heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies.
