Denver, CO – A high avalanche danger warning is in effect for Summit County, Colorado, from late Monday evening through Tuesday night due to heavy snowfall and strong winds.

According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, the avalanche danger level is rated HIGH (Level 4 of 5), making natural and human-triggered avalanches very likely. The warning, relayed by the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, urges residents and visitors to avoid travel in backcountry avalanche terrain during this period.

The most hazardous conditions will begin at midnight Monday and last through Tuesday evening. Authorities warn that large and dangerous avalanches may occur easily in many locations, posing a serious threat to those in the affected areas. Backcountry travelers are advised to steer clear of slopes steeper than 30 degrees.

Avalanche risk in Colorado is heightened by recent heavy snowfall combined with strong winds, which can create unstable snowpack conditions. Those in Summit County and surrounding areas should exercise extreme caution and check for updates before venturing into mountainous regions.
