North Platte, NE – A powerful blizzard is set to impact Nebraska starting early Tuesday morning, bringing dangerous whiteout conditions, high winds, and hazardous travel through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in North Platte, a Blizzard Warning is in effect from 3 a.m. CST Tuesday until noon Wednesday for much of north-central, panhandle, southwest, and west-central Nebraska. Snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching up to 65 mph.

These conditions will create treacherous and potentially life-threatening travel throughout the affected areas, including North Platte, Valentine, Ogallala, Imperial, and surrounding communities. Whiteout conditions will make driving extremely dangerous, especially during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. The strong winds may also lead to tree damage and scattered power outages.

Officials urge residents to limit travel to emergencies only and to carry a winter survival kit if venturing out. If stranded, drivers should remain in their vehicles and wait for assistance.

Residents should monitor updates from Nebraska 511 for the latest road conditions and heed warnings from local authorities. The storm is expected to clear by Wednesday afternoon, but lingering effects may persist due to drifting snow and continued strong winds.
