Ackerly, TX – A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck West Texas on Friday, shaking communities southwest of Ackerly. Residents across the Midland-Odessa region reported feeling the tremor.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 1:33 p.m. CST at a depth of 6.8 km. The epicenter was about 26 km southwest of Ackerly. Reports indicate moderate shaking, but no significant damage or injuries.

The USGS community intensity map rated the quake at a VI (strong) on the Modified Mercalli Intensity scale. Residents described brief but noticeable shaking.

West Texas has experienced an increase in seismic activity, possibly linked to oil and gas operations. Officials continue to monitor the situation.
