New York – A mix of snow and freezing rain will create hazardous travel conditions across eastern New York on Friday, with impacts lasting into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Albany, a clipper system will bring 1 to 3 inches of wet snow and a thin layer of ice overnight into Friday morning. Freezing rain may cause slippery roads, particularly along I-90 and local highways. The storm could disrupt the Friday morning commute, especially in Albany, Rensselaer, and surrounding areas.

Friday’s high will reach near 37°F, with snow tapering off in the afternoon. However, another system is expected Friday night into Saturday, bringing additional light snow. Areas west of the Hudson Valley and the Adirondacks could see accumulations exceeding 4 inches, prompting a possible winter weather advisory.

By Saturday, temperatures will climb to 48°F, melting some snow, but another round of wintry mix is possible before noon. Saturday night will see a sharp temperature drop, with lows near 15°F. Sunday will be mostly sunny but cold, with a high of just 24°F.

Looking ahead to next week, Monday will start partly cloudy with a high of 30°F, while Tuesday sees a return to milder conditions with highs in the mid-40s. Rain is likely by Wednesday, signaling a transition toward early spring weather.

Travelers should plan accordingly, allow extra time, and stay updated on weather alerts.
