Wake County, NC Drowning: Man Found Dead in Backyard Pond Today

Wake County, NC – Authorities are investigating a drowning after a man was found dead in a backyard pond Monday afternoon in eastern Wake County.

According to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 3:15 p.m. on September 22, 2025, for a welfare check in the 7000 block of Hodge Road. When they arrived, deputies requested assistance from multiple fire departments to search the property.

The Hopkins Fire Department, Knightdale Fire Department, Wendell Fire Department, and Wake New Hope Fire Department joined deputies in searching a pond located behind the home. After approximately two hours, first responders recovered the body of an adult male from the water.

Officials said the man’s identity will not be released until next of kin have been notified. No additional details on how the drowning occurred were immediately available.

The sheriff’s office has not indicated whether foul play is suspected.
