WAUKESHA, WI — The Waukesha County Sheriff 's Department is preparing for a three day review of its law enforcement operations this December, with residents invited to provide feedback as independent assessors evaluate whether the agency meets Wisconsin's professional accreditation standards.
According to a public notice issued Monday, Nov. 2, by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department, assessors from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group WILEAG will conduct an on site assessment from Tuesday, Dec. 15, through Thursday, Dec. 17, 2026.
The review will examine department policies, procedures, management practices, daily operations and support services.
To maintain its accreditation, the Sheriff's Department must demonstrate compliance with applicable WILEAG standards, which are designed to recognize professional excellence in law enforcement.
The assessment also provides an opportunity for residents and department employees to comment on the agency's compliance with those standards.
Public comments will be accepted by telephone Tuesday, Dec. 15, between noon and 2 p.m. Residents wishing to participate can call 262 896 8143 during that two hour period.
Calls will be received by the WILEAG assessment team, and comments will be limited to 10 minutes per person.
Officials emphasized that feedback must specifically address the department's ability to meet accreditation requirements.
Written comments may also be submitted to the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group at 7525 W. Greenfield Ave., West Allis, WI 53214, or emailed to Executive.director@wileag.info .
Residents interested in reviewing the accreditation standards can visit www.wileag.info or obtain information at the Sheriff's Department, located at 515 W. Moreland Blvd. in Waukesha.
The assessment concerns the department serving Waukesha County, part of the greater Milwaukee metropolitan area.
For additional information, residents may contact Capt. Michelle Leffler at mleffler@waukeshacounty.gov .
The department has not announced the outcome of the upcoming review, which is scheduled for mid December.
