RANDOLPH, WI – A 71 year old man was killed Monday evening after the raised dump body of his truck struck an overhead wire, causing the vehicle to overturn on a Dodge County highway, authorities reported Tuesday.
According to the Dodge County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded to the single vehicle crash at approximately 7:29 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, along County Highway P near North Columbus Street in Randolph, Wisconsin.
Investigators determined that a 2004 International straight truck equipped with a dump body was traveling westbound on County Highway P when the raised dump body struck an overhead wire.
Truck Overturns After Striking Overhead Wire
The impact caused the truck to overturn, trapping the driver inside the vehicle.
The driver, identified only as a 71 year old man from rural Randolph, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released his name pending notification of family members.
The Sheriff's Office has not disclosed why the dump body was raised while the truck was traveling or provided additional details about the overhead wire.
Multiple Emergency Agencies Respond
Several emergency response agencies assisted at the scene, including the Randolph Police Department , Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Fox Lake Police Department, Randolph Fire Department and Randolph EMS.
Additional assistance came from the Fox Lake Fire Department, Beaver Dam Paramedics, Dodge County Emergency Response Team and Dodge County Medical Examiner's Office.
The Dodge County Sheriff's Office Crash Investigation Team continues investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal rollover.
Authorities have not announced additional findings or identified any other vehicles involved.
The crash occurred along County Highway P in the Randolph area, near the Dodge and Columbia county line.
