Milwaukee, WI – Thanksgiving travelers across Wisconsin may need to watch for early season snow as a long range outlook raises the possibility of flurries and colder weather during the holiday week. Milwaukee, Green Bay, Madison and La Crosse could experience different conditions as Thanksgiving approaches Thursday, Nov. 26.
According to the Farmers' Almanac's Oct. 19 update, its Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and Midwest forecast region could experience colder, more winterlike conditions with scattered snow showers or flurries from Monday, Nov. 23, through Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 2026.
The forecast region includes Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky. The publication mentions possible brief travel slowdowns where snow showers develop but does not provide specific snowfall totals, accumulation probabilities or timing for Wisconsin cities.
Wisconsin's geography makes those distinctions important. Milwaukee's location along Lake Michigan can influence temperatures and precipitation, while Green Bay and northeastern Wisconsin experience different early season snowfall patterns.
Farther inland, Madison and La Crosse can also receive November snow. However, conditions may vary considerably across the state, meaning snowfall in one community would not necessarily extend into another.
NOAA's Oct. 15 November outlook favors above normal temperatures across the Great Lakes, with below normal precipitation favored in parts of the region. Those monthly probabilities do not rule out individual cold spells or snow showers.
For Thanksgiving travelers, I 94 between Milwaukee and Madison, I 43 toward Green Bay and I 90 across southern Wisconsin are important routes to monitor if winter weather develops. No specific highway disruptions have been established by the Almanac's regional projection.
Could Wisconsin see snow before Thanksgiving 2026? Yes. November snow is a normal part of Wisconsin's climate, but the long range outlook does not confirm snowfall for Milwaukee, Green Bay or other communities during the holiday.
Residents should consult National Weather Service forecasts closer to Thanksgiving for updated snowfall expectations, timing and potential travel impacts.
