Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Heavy rain and thunderstorms intensify overnight, with flooding possible across southern Wisconsin as some areas receive more than 2 inches.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, scattered showers develop Monday afternoon before becoming more widespread Monday night. The heaviest rainfall is expected between midnight and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
A widespread 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected in parts of southern Wisconsin, with locally higher amounts possible. The axis of the heaviest totals runs from southwestern Wisconsin toward Dodge County, where some locations could receive more than 2 inches.
Flooding and ponding are possible in urban and low lying areas and along small streams, particularly where more than an inch falls during a short period.
For Milwaukee, rain chances increase from 10% Monday afternoon and evening to 30% around midnight, then reach 70% by 3 a.m. Tuesday. Chances remain at 65% around 6 a.m. before decreasing during the day.
Storms are expected to strengthen and spread across the rest of southern Wisconsin from midnight to 8 a.m. Tuesday, when flooding could develop. Winds could also gust to around 30 mph Monday evening through Tuesday morning.
Drivers traveling before and during the Tuesday morning commute should watch for ponding and flooded low spots. Conditions could be more problematic where thunderstorms repeatedly produce heavy rain.
Storms become more scattered and shift south between 8 a.m. and noon Tuesday. Most areas turn dry after midday, although some light rain could linger in far southeastern Wisconsin.
