Madison, WI – Wisconsin’s typical October cooldown may have some competition during Oct. 12 18, with warmer than normal temperatures favored alongside a wetter pattern across the state.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center’s 8 14 day outlook, issued Oct. 4, favors above normal temperatures across Wisconsin during the seven day period. Above normal precipitation is also favored.
For Wisconsin, that could mean fall warmth has more staying power than the calendar might suggest. The outlook measures temperatures across the entire week, however, rather than predicting consistently warm conditions every day.
Cold nights can still interrupt the mild pattern. Northern Wisconsin and colder inland locations could experience substantial drops after sunset, especially during clearer and calmer periods. Frost is possible during October when temperatures fall sufficiently, but the CPC outlook cannot determine whether frost will occur during this particular week.
The precipitation outlook adds a wetter component to the pattern. It favors more precipitation than normal for Oct. 12 18 but does not provide rain totals, storm tracks or exact timing.
That means residents from Madison and Milwaukee to Green Bay and northern Wisconsin should not interpret the outlook as seven straight rainy days. Dry periods could occur between passing systems.
The broader message for Wisconsin is lingering fall warmth mixed with increased odds for a wetter week , while cold nights remain possible despite the mild overall signal.
Specific rain chances and nighttime temperatures should become clearer as Oct. 12 approaches and shorter range National Weather Service forecasts begin covering the period.
