GREEN BAY, WI — Northeast Wisconsin could carry warmer than normal weather into the beginning of November, as a new federal outlook favors above average temperatures across much of the state during Oct. 26–Nov. 1. Around Green Bay and the Fox Valley, the longer range outlook follows a week of sunshine, occasional morning fog and afternoon temperatures consistently reaching the 60s.
According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, the eight to 14 day outlook issued Sunday, Oct. 18, favors above normal average temperatures across Wisconsin during Oct. 26–Nov. 1. The outlook places Green Bay within a broad area of warmer than normal probabilities extending across the Great Lakes and Midwest, although the strength of the signal varies by region.
Northeast Wisconsin's November Warmth Signal Green Bay, located in Brown County, falls within an area showing approximately a 60%–70% probability of above normal temperatures.
The warm temperature signal extends across the Fox Valley, including Appleton, Oshkosh and surrounding communities, and westward toward Wausau and central Wisconsin.
Farther south, Madison and Milwaukee also favor above normal temperatures, with relatively strong probabilities across much of southern Wisconsin.
Northern communities closer to Lake Superior remain within the warmer than normal category, although the signal weakens somewhat toward the northern border.
The timing is notable because late October and early November typically bring shorter days, colder overnight temperatures and an increasing likelihood of freezing conditions across northeast Wisconsin.
A warmer than normal pattern could make the transition into November feel less abrupt, but the outlook does not guarantee that every afternoon will be mild or that freezing temperatures will be absent.
Green Bay Forecast Brings Sunshine and Morning Fog Before the extended outlook begins, the National Weather Service forecast for Green Bay indicates a relatively mild stretch of October weather.
Monday, Oct. 19, is expected to be sunny with a high near 64 degrees, followed by another high around 64 Tuesday.
Wednesday could reach approximately 66 degrees, with Thursday near 65.
The forecast continues with a high around 64 Friday and 67 Saturday before settling near 65 Sunday.
Overnight lows are generally expected in the 40s and lower 50s, including around 44 Monday and Tuesday nights.
Morning fog is also part of the near term forecast. Patchy fog is possible late Monday night and Tuesday morning, with additional fog chances Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
At Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport, the supplied observation showed 47 degrees shortly before 3 a.m. Monday.
These specific daily forecasts apply to Oct. 19–25 and should not be treated as predictions for Oct. 26–Nov. 1.
Precipitation Outlook Favors Wetter Conditions While temperatures are expected to average above normal, NOAA's precipitation outlook favors above normal precipitation across much of Wisconsin.
Green Bay and surrounding northeast Wisconsin communities fall within a relatively modest wet probability area, generally around 33%–40%.
The above normal precipitation signal also extends across much of central and northern Wisconsin, while portions of southeastern Wisconsin are closer to near normal precipitation probabilities.
That means a warmer than normal November transition would not necessarily bring consistently dry weather.
As November approaches, updated National Weather Service forecasts will help determine whether the favored warmth arrives through milder afternoons, warmer nights or a combination of both.
Would you welcome another stretch of mild fall weather around Green Bay, or are you ready for November's colder temperatures?
