GREEN BAY, WI – A widespread overnight freeze is expected across central and northeastern Wisconsin early Saturday, October 17, as temperatures plunge into the 20s and lower 30s. Freeze warnings and a separate frost advisory have been issued, with residents urged to protect sensitive outdoor plants before Friday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Freeze Warning will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday for a large portion of central and northeastern Wisconsin.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the middle 20s to middle 30s , with the coldest conditions developing overnight as skies clear and winds gradually diminish.
The warning area includes communities across central Wisconsin and portions of northeastern Wisconsin, including the Green Bay area.
Forecasters say the combination of clearing skies and lighter winds will allow temperatures to fall rapidly overnight, increasing the likelihood of widespread freezing conditions.
A separate Frost Advisory has been issued for Door County from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday.
The advisory covers areas where frost is expected, particularly across interior and southern portions of Door County.
Northern Door County communities along the bay may remain slightly warmer, with overnight temperatures potentially staying in the upper 30s.
The National Weather Service warns that frost could damage sensitive vegetation, while freezing temperatures may kill vulnerable outdoor plants if precautions are not taken.
Residents should bring potted plants indoors or cover exposed vegetation before temperatures drop Friday night.
Gardeners and homeowners with late season flowers, vegetables and other cold sensitive plants should take protective measures ahead of the overnight freeze.
The cold conditions follow the end of the growing season in some northern Wisconsin locations, while additional areas face their first significant freeze of the fall.
Residents across Green Bay, central Wisconsin and Door County should monitor updated forecasts and local warning information through the National Weather Service at weather.gov/grb.
