Fitchburg, WI – Two criminal cases stemming from a 2025 homicide investigation in Fitchburg, Dane County, near Madison have now resulted in lengthy state and federal prison sentences.
According to the Fitchburg Police Department , Rodney Golden was convicted June 30 of second degree reckless homicide in the May 6, 2025, stabbing death of Myron Dunlap, 40 .
Golden was sentenced to 15 years in Wisconsin state prison , followed by 10 years of extended supervision, police said in a Tuesday update on the case.
The department said the homicide investigation also led authorities to a separate federal firearms case.
During execution of a search warrant connected to the Dunlap investigation, officers found an AR style rifle and narcotics at the residence of Dushan Mims. Police said Mims had a prior felony conviction and was therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm.
On Friday, Sept. 25, Mims was sentenced to six years in federal prison , followed by three years of supervised release, for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, according to the department.
Police described the federal prosecution as an outgrowth of the broader homicide investigation.
The department’s update identified the original case as the May 2025 “Monkeyshines Homicide Investigation.” Fitchburg police credited members of its Investigations Bureau along with neighboring law enforcement agencies and prosecution partners for their work on the cases.
The department said the outcomes followed extensive investigative work in the months after Dunlap’s death.
Golden’s homicide case and Mims’ federal firearms case were separate prosecutions, but police said the evidence leading to the federal case was discovered while investigators were working on the homicide.
