Eagle River, WI – A Freeze Warning is in effect for parts of northern Wisconsin tonight, with temperatures expected to fall as low as 28 degrees before Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, the warning covers Vilas, Forest, Florence and northern Marinette counties from 11 p.m. CDT Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday.
The warning replaces a previously issued Frost Advisory for the same area.
Communities included in the warning area include Eagle River, Lac Du Flambeau, Crandon, Aurora, Commonwealth, Spread Eagle, Niagara and Wausaukee.
Sub freezing temperatures could produce frost and freeze conditions capable of killing crops and other sensitive vegetation. The National Weather Service said unprotected outdoor plumbing also could potentially be damaged.
Residents are advised to protect tender plants from the cold before temperatures drop Friday night.
The Freeze Warning is focused on four counties in northern and northeastern Wisconsin and does not apply statewide. Temperatures are expected to reach their lowest levels overnight into early Saturday.
Residents across Vilas, Forest, Florence and northern Marinette counties should expect freezing conditions through daybreak, with the warning scheduled to expire at 7 a.m. CDT Saturday.
