Ashland, WI – A Freeze Warning is in effect for Ashland and Iron counties in northern Wisconsin from 9 p.m. Friday through 7 a.m. CDT Saturday, with lows near 28 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, sub freezing temperatures are expected overnight across both counties. The warning includes Ashland and Hurley.
Ashland County was upgraded from a Frost Advisory to a Freeze Warning Friday morning, while the existing Freeze Warning for Iron County remains in effect.
Temperatures could fall as low as 28 degrees before daybreak Saturday. The National Weather Service said frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and could possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Residents with tender plants should take steps to protect them before temperatures fall Friday evening.
The warning begins at 9 p.m. CDT Friday and continues through 7 a.m. Saturday, covering the period when temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.
The alert is focused specifically on Ashland and Iron counties in northern Wisconsin. Communities named by the weather service include Ashland in Ashland County and Hurley in Iron County.
Residents should expect the coldest conditions overnight into early Saturday morning, with the Freeze Warning scheduled to expire at 7 a.m. CDT Saturday.
