Martinsburg, WV — Authorities in West Virginia are asking for the public's help identifying a masked suspect who allegedly fled a Tractor Supply store break in, leading deputies on a high speed pursuit exceeding 100 mph across state lines into Maryland.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff 's Office, the incident occurred Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Tractor Supply store on Edwin Miller Boulevard in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, in the Hagerstown metropolitan area.
Martinsburg police responded after a business alarm was activated. Officers reported seeing a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck fleeing the scene, driven by a male wearing a mask.
A Berkeley County deputy subsequently spotted the vehicle fleeing from Martinsburg police and assumed responsibility for the pursuit as the truck entered the county.
Authorities said the driver allegedly accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 mph while traveling northbound on Interstate 81 before exiting at Exit 23 and continuing north on U.S. Route 11.
The pursuit crossed into Williamsport, Maryland, where the suspect reportedly drove through Williamsport City Park and several municipal streets before returning to Route 11.
Investigators said the driver also traveled southbound in northbound lanes on both Route 11 and Interstate 81, creating a potentially dangerous situation for other motorists.
Deputies maintained visual contact while remaining in the proper travel lanes.
After learning that Maryland law enforcement agencies would not assume responsibility for the pursuit, Berkeley County deputies terminated their involvement.
The sheriff's office has not announced an arrest or publicly identified the suspect.
Authorities are requesting surveillance footage, dashcam recordings or other information that could help identify the driver or vehicle.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office at 304 267 7000.
The investigation remains ongoing, according to the department's public appeal.
