Charleston, WV – West Virginia residents can expect a welcome change in the weather Monday, October 12, as warmer temperatures and drier conditions return to much of the state. Some eastern and mountainous communities could still experience lingering drizzle before conditions improve later in the day.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the remnants of Isaias are continuing to move east of the area, allowing temperatures to climb and precipitation to gradually diminish.
The forecast calls for afternoon highs reaching the upper 70s in western communities, while higher elevations remain noticeably cooler.
Monday's Forecast Temperatures
Huntington is expected to be among the warmer locations, with an afternoon high near 78 degrees.
Charleston should reach approximately 74 degrees, providing more comfortable conditions for residents heading outdoors or traveling throughout the Kanawha Valley.
Meanwhile, temperatures will remain cooler in the mountains and southeastern portions of the state.
Beckley is forecast to reach 67 degrees, while Elkins could see a high near 66 degrees.
That creates a temperature difference of approximately 12 degrees between Huntington and Elkins.
Lingering Drizzle in Mountain Communities
Although most of the region will experience improving weather, the National Weather Service indicates that areas of drizzle could persist across eastern and mountainous locations through early Monday afternoon.
Motorists traveling through higher elevations should remain alert for damp pavement and localized reductions in visibility where drizzle continues.
Elsewhere, the overall trend favors drier and warmer conditions as the remaining moisture shifts eastward.
Residents planning outdoor activities Monday afternoon can expect improving conditions in many communities, although local temperatures and cloud cover will vary.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor updated local forecasts as conditions continue changing throughout the day.
