SPOKANE, WA – Eastern Washington residents are facing a significant change in temperatures heading into the weekend, with Spokane expected to cool from a pleasant 69 degrees Wednesday to the upper 50s Saturday. The bigger concern arrives overnight Friday, when temperatures could fall to around 32 degrees, bringing freezing conditions to some locations.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a stretch of mostly sunny afternoons will give way to cooler temperatures, occasional shower chances and increasingly chilly nights through the weekend. The changing conditions affect Spokane County and the surrounding Spokane metropolitan area, where residents may need to prepare for colder early mornings.
The temperature shift comes as a broader western U.S. weather pattern brings cooler air into portions of the region. National Weather Service forecast guidance indicates that a developing Pacific trough will support cooler conditions across parts of the West.
Five Day Spokane Weather Outlook Wednesday 10/21: Mostly sunny skies will bring a high near 69 degrees, making Wednesday the warmest day in the current five day forecast. Calm winds are expected, with temperatures dropping to approximately 40 degrees overnight under mostly clear skies.
Thursday 10/22: Increasing clouds will accompany a high near 66 degrees. Showers become possible after 11 a.m., with a 20% precipitation chance. Thursday night carries a 40% chance of showers, with temperatures falling to around 40 degrees. Rainfall amounts are expected to remain below one tenth of an inch.
Friday 10/23: Mostly sunny conditions return, but afternoon temperatures will reach only about 61 degrees. Friday night brings the coldest forecast low of the period, approximately 32 degrees, creating the potential for freezing temperatures in exposed locations.
Saturday 10/24: Partly sunny skies are expected, with afternoon temperatures reaching approximately 57 degrees. That represents a 12 degree decline from Wednesday's forecast high. Saturday night temperatures should fall to around 35 degrees, with a 20% chance of showers after 11 p.m.
Sunday 10/25: A 30% chance of showers is forecast, primarily before 11 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny skies and a high near 57 degrees are expected. Sunday night temperatures could fall to around 32 degrees, with a 20% chance of showers.
What Residents Should Prepare For The sharpest change will be noticeable during overnight and early morning hours, particularly Friday night and Sunday night.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants may want to monitor temperatures closely, especially in locations where readings fall to or below freezing.
Drivers should also be aware of changing weather conditions during periods of showers, although the current Spokane forecast does not establish any specific winter weather travel hazards.
Longer Range Outlook: October 28 November 3 The NOAA Climate Prediction Center's eight to 14 day outlook, issued October 20, places much of Eastern Washington in an area favoring near normal temperatures.
Precipitation probabilities lean above normal across much of Washington during the October 28 November 3 period, suggesting a potentially wetter pattern heading toward November.
These outlooks describe broad trends rather than daily rainfall amounts or specific storm forecasts.
For now, the most immediate concern is the transition from mild afternoons to colder nights, with Spokane residents facing temperatures near the freezing mark as the weekend approaches.
