Spokane, WA – A stretch of mild fall weather across eastern Washington is expected to give way to cooler temperatures, scattered rain showers and the possibility of accumulating snow in mountain passes by Wednesday night and Thursday, potentially affecting higher elevation travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, Sunday, October 25, will remain relatively mild and dry for most locations before a more unsettled weather pattern develops across the Inland Northwest.
Mild Sunday Before Temperatures Drop
Sunday afternoon temperatures are expected to reach the mid 60s to upper 60s across much of the region.
Any shower activity should remain largely confined to the Cascade Mountains, leaving most lower elevation communities with favorable outdoor conditions.
However, temperatures will begin trending downward Monday as a cooler weather pattern settles across the region.
From Monday through Wednesday, afternoon highs are forecast to range from the upper 40s to mid 50s, with scattered showers possible each day.
Mountain Snow Possible Wednesday Night
By Wednesday night, October 28, and Thursday, October 29, another drop in temperatures could bring light snow accumulations to mountain elevations and mountain passes.
The Weather Service expects afternoon highs generally in the mid 40s to lower 50s during this period.
Precipitation chances will also increase outside the Columbia Basin, potentially bringing additional wet conditions to surrounding communities.
Travelers Should Monitor Mountain Conditions
Although significant snowfall amounts have not been specified, even light accumulations could create changing travel conditions along higher elevation routes.
Drivers planning trips through mountain passes Wednesday night or Thursday should monitor updated forecasts and check road conditions before departure.
The forecast does not currently indicate widespread accumulating snow for lower elevation communities, including Spokane.
